Goa had its Legislative assembly elections taking place on February 4, 2017, with an all-time high voter turnout of almost 84%. The major contending parties in the legislative assembly of Goa are Bhartiya Janta Party, Indian National Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party. Aiming for a landslide victory, both AAP and Indian National Congress have contested for the all the 40 legislative assembly seats, whereas the Bhartiya Janta Party has only contested in 36 of the 40 total seats. As per the latest election news, Laxmikant Parsekar, the incumbent CM of the state (BJP) and Pratapsingh Rane from Indian National Congress are the front-runners for the seat of Chief Minister in the Goa legislative.
